These two properties appear to be two parts of a whole, with a
continuous roof line from the front view, although the rear has more
differences - whether that was always the case, I have no idea.
This is a building of vernacular style, with the overall low profile
and asymmetrical fenestration, so probably of a good age. It is
shown on the 1750-60 map, but is probably much older than that.
There are very few old photos from which to get any clues as to
recent changes that may have taken place. Photos seem to have been
taken from this location looking in both directions, but rarely
including this building!

Of the photos that do include at least a section of this building,
the only obvious changes seen are the addition of the two oriel
windows overhanging the brook. As with most properties, the other
windows would have been replaced at some point, but the even
casements have been retained.

I imagine that the framing and small canopy on the doorway to No.12
was added at some point, but have no evidence as to when that would
have been.
My own memory of the building only goes back to the 1990s, when
No.12 was in use as "Alec's tea room" for a while.
